spendsetterSpendsetter is a mobile advocacy marketing platform based in Nashville, TN.  Spendsetter helps brands create targeted mobile marketing campaigns that incentivize brand advocates to share their passion and brand affinity with their social audience.

In other words — with Spendsetter, the brand advocates do the marketing, which makes it easy for brands to build long-lasting relationships with their fans and develop insight into what makes them tick.


Spendsetter is a start-up and has a small team but a great product that is ready to go. They have worked with great companies like ManCave, Bionic Gloves, and The Marin County Convention and Tourist Bureau.

Jeremy Ellis — SVP of Business Development @ Spendsetter — wanted to dig into specific segments where the company had customer success with and tee up his team with more qualified sales conversations.  He didn’t have the budget to grow his sales headcount, so he enlisted RevBoss to automate the front end of his sales prospecting.

“We needed to gather a better definition of how to best communicate the value of Spendsetter across multiple industries while keeping the company specifics pretty specific.” said Jeremy.


Spendsetter put RevBoss to work beginning in July 2015. We knew those few targets, retail/commerce, hospitality, entertainment and media but needed to source the right prospects and test value props for each segment.

RevBoss helped Spendsetter source a massive population of target companies with an admittedly fuzzy criteria — lifestyle brands with an active social audience and likely to have customers eager to be brand advocates. “RevBoss frees me up from having to do labor intensive work like prospecting,” said Jeremy. RevBoss sourced the data through the RevBoss software that turned it into sales conversations for the Spendsetter team.

“RevBoss became a strategic partner that worked with us to do the trial and error until we found a real sweet spot,” said Jeremy. “If we weren’t using RevBoss, I don’t know what we would be doing.”


In the 9 months since working with Spendsetter, RevBoss has cranked through ~1,200 prospects a month, and nearly tripling the volume of qualified conversations for the Spendsetter the sales team. “Through working with RevBoss, we’ve learned that our outbound sales process will take longer than our inbound cycle,” said Jeremy.  “That said — we’ve already closed one deal and we have at least 3 more ready to close.”

RevBoss is more consistent and predictable than a BDR -- it is faster and  achieves a broader reach than a BDR can because it combines expertise with automation.
