Authenticity, trust, and audience are the only durable marketing differentiators in an AI-first market.
I had just wrapped a run at a software company that went from promising to not-so-promising in a hurry. After all of that, I spent a lot of time doing sales and marketing consulting for tech companies, start-ups, and marketing agencies. And over time, I realized two things: 1) nearly every project I took on focused on lead generation and process, and 2) I wasn't having much fun doing the work alone.
So I hired Danny Chu (he's back on the team, btw) and we got to work. His first day he showed up at my house at 8am. My wife Kelly brewed a pot of coffee, we set up shop in my office upstairs, and by the end of the week, we made the strategic decision to a lease on an actual office.
Since those salad days, RevBoss has grown, shrunk, grown again, and changed directions more times than I can count. And our endurance through every twist and turn says a lot about the quality of our team, the trust our clients put in us, and honestly just how much the world has changed.
When Danny rolled up to my house in 2014, AI was a couple years retired from the NBA. Today, a very different AI has become foundational in everything that we do. It's changed everything, including RevBoss. We spent our first 10 years as an email-first lead generation provider. The process just worked and we were *really* good at it.
And like every marketing motion before it and those yet to come, the email game changed. We saw it coming, so we were ahead of it and pivoted toward the RevBoss you see today – one that helps our clients create marketing success by focusing on trust, authenticity, and audience.
Because in a rip and run AI-first world, those timeless values might be the only differentiator we have left.
So here we are and here I am – wiser, looser, and somehow still energized after 10+ years of RevBoss'ing. I'm still trying to build the kind of company that clients love and that I've always wanted to work for…and with the kind of people I always wanted to work with.
